Hospital Supply Deliveries

Our partner in Ukraine, UAid Direct, had a large load of hospital supplies they were trying to get over the border to a hospital in Ivano-Frankivsk. The hospitals in this area, in western Ukraine, are used extensively to treat wounded Ukrainian soldiers because of its long distance to the front (and hence, Russian missiles).

We made two border crossings, then a 3 hour drive each way in winter weather to get the supplies there. We met a pair of Ukrainian doctors supervising the delivery; both of them are surgeons who operate on severely wounded soldiers. The woman was from eastern Ukraine and told us of fleeing the invading Russians at the beginning of the war, eventually resettling in Ivano-Frankivsk. Tragically, her mother was killed by Russian forces when they reached the outskirts of Kyiv during the first weeks of the war. And yet, she perseveres and unselfishly gives her time to save the lives of the Ukrainian defenders. She is a model of courage, selflessness and patriotism.
